Dubai Police supercar tops list of fastest law-enforcement vehicles

Top 5 fastest street-legal police cars - in picturesABU DHABI // Police in Dubai have no excuse for failing to catch speeding motorists after the addition of the world’s fastest street-legal car to their fleet.

The Bugatti Veyron has topped a list of the fastest law enforcement vehicles in emerging countries, compiled by car sales website www.carmudi.ae

Capable of a top speed of 407kph, the 16-cylinder Veyron boasts 1,200 horsepower, allowing it to reach 100kph in 2.5 seconds.

The car is the jewel in the crown of the force’s fleet of luxury cars, which Dubai Police use to promote their image and to encourage greater interaction with the public.

Police chief Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina has said that the cars enhance the force’s presence at landmark tourist sites.

He said the police stay up-to-date with the latest cars and technology to ensure the best safety and security services.

Dubai Police also have a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 in their ranks, a supercar that was also recently acquired by the police in Vietnam to promote their ability to serve and protect.

The Aventador – number two on the list – also features elsewhere in police fleets around the world. It reaches 349kph, making other high-speed drivers think twice before putting the pedal to the metal.

Lamborghini also ranks third on the list, with the Gallardo LP 560-4. Accelerating to 100kph in 3.7 seconds, police in Indonesia have one on show at a shopping mall. Once it hits the streets it will be able to reach a top speed of 330kph.

Qatari police also feature in the top rankings with their Porsche Panamera, in fourth place. The Panamera, Qatar’s fastest police patrol car, can reach 318kph.

And with the Qatari government holding a stake in the German luxury car maker, Porsches make up the bulk of the nation’s fleet of cruisers.

At number five on the list is the Chevrolet Camaro, in which Mexican police patrol the streets, reaching speeds of up to 249kph.

Although the Camaro is behind the blistering speeds of the Bugatti Veyron, those on the wrong side of the law should note that it can accelerate from a standing start to 100kph in 4.9 seconds.
