2016 Cadillac CT6 (FAQ)

This is an all-new model for Cadillac so everything about it is new. It's a large sedan positioned above the current CTS in Cadillac's lineup. With a wheelbase of 122 inches and an overall length of 204 inches, the CT6 is bigger than the standard length Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series, but slightly shorter than the extended length Audi A8L and BMW 740iL models.

Built on an all-new platform that uses several types of steel along with aluminum, the CT6 will be available in both rear- and all-wheel drive. Cadillac claims that it will have a curb weight of fewer than 3,700 pounds, which would make it significantly lighter than its German rivals of similar size. The CT6 will also offer four-wheel steering, magnetically adjustable shocks and multiple driving modes.

What Kind of Engines and Transmissions Does It Have?

    2.0-liter, four-cylinder: 265 horsepower
    3.5-liter, V6: 335 hp, 284 lb-ft of torque
    3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6: 400 hp, 400 lb-ft of torque (est.)
    Eight-speed automatic transmission standard: 3.0-liter engine uses high-capacity version of the standard eight-speed used with the 2.0-liter and 3.5-liter engines.

When Does It Go On Sale?
Production of the CT6 is expected to start toward the end of this year, so expect to see them in dealers early in 2016.

How Much Does It Cost?
Cadillac officials did not discuss cost yet, but given its position in the lineup we would guess that it will start somewhere around $60K and go up to around $80K for a fully loaded model with the twin-turbo V6.

What Unique Features Does It Offer?
Since the CT6 is now Cadillac's flagship sedan, the company made sure to give it every last piece of technology it had available. Notable features include a wireless charging pad for cell phones, a rearview mirror that uses video images to give drivers an unobstructed view behind them and a new Bose Panaray audio system with 34 speakers.

Rear seat passengers don't get left out either. Dual video screens rise out of the front seatbacks, while the rear seats have heating, massage and a ventilation system in addition to the ability to recline.

Other interesting options include a 360-degree camera that can not only record while you're driving, it can also turn itself on when you're not in the car by the security system if it senses someone lurking too close. There are also numerous safety features like night vision and pedestrian detection that can automatically stop the car if you don't on your own.

What Models Will It Compete Against?
Audi A8: A recent refresh along with a wide range of available engines makes Audi's top sedan a worthy competitor. Built entirely out of aluminum, the A8 was the original lightweight luxury sedan.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Often considered the class of this class, the S550 and its variations still represent luxury at its finest. Like the Audi, the S-Class offers multiple engine options and even a plug-in hybrid version.

Porsche Panamera: If Cadillac wants the CT6 to be taken seriously as a sport sedan, it'll have to outgun Porsche's formidable sedan. That won't be easy given the numerous variations of the Panamera that range all the way up to the twin-turbo V8-powered Turbo S model with 570 hp.

Should You Wait for It?
If you've always wanted an American luxury sedan but felt like you were settling for less than the best, Cadillac is trying to give you something to consider with the CT6. Until we drive it we won't know for sure if it's a true match for the Germans. Sure looks good on paper, though.
